Brent Shapiro (29) was born in Manhattan, and was raised in Westchester County. Upon first encounter with a computer, he decided right then that he had to know everything that there was to learn about it. Not before long, Brent became a computer expert and guru, and was fortunate to have been witness to all the revolutionary conceptual introductions, changes of hardware, birth of HTML & the web etc.
EDUCATION
Brent received his formal art background from presitigious Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. He has been fortunate enough to have been designing websites for major clients on a contractual basis since the HTML standards were created, giving Luxe Design a completely unique perspective on programming and development, combined with design.
Most designers and art directors cannot write code, and many coders cannot design.
UNIQUE SKILLS
What sets Brent apart is that he does both, and at an expert level plus has a very critical eye, and a strong sense of aesthetic taste which is aimed at being universally tasteful, clean, plasticized and corporate. He is uniquely able to translate any strong visual inspiration from a thought in his head right to a screen without any barriers in terms of code. Brent can instruct and then review interfacing tasks review and edit/implement changes of coding done by programmer(s), and consult with advice in regards to implementing the design with SEO compliance and full database integration etc.
ARRAY OF EXPERIENCES
Brent makes a point of learning all the newest programming techniques that are design related. He has a strong sense for business as well, and is able to combine a unique set of skills with strong business tactics to really help his clients achieve a full picture. He has run many unique businesses; and also have held many interesting and high-level jobs and positions though being so young. He has designed crystal chandeliers, worked in customer service for trendy West Elm, was a Meatpacking District designer for a luxury home company, run many eBay businesses simultaneously at PowerSeller status, works ongoing with an Search Engine Optimization firm doing interfaces, has numerous brands he is responsible for, and also works in conjunction with other larger, well known agencies.
His roles stretch wide in spectrum boasting a range of projects that include roles as merchandiser & personal shopper to information technology architect and director of national advertisement promotions for both online and print. He has art directed and designed personally numerous corporate brandings & have had many of print designs run in nationwide publications such as Nylon Magazine & Women's Wear Daily.
Brent started Luxe Design in 2006 as a solution to many problems that he saw with clients on a continual basis. He noticed a lot of people doing a lot of the same things and wasting a lot of time. Brent was also sick of creating websites from the ground up every single time someone wanted a website.
Looking for exposure, flexibility to pursue many various work leads, and to be able to help other artists, Brent wanted an entire strategy that meshed well with true design. No one designer can do it all, and the people he works with professionally, personally etc are always the main priority.
Brent's motivation and main inspiration for design is luxury oriented branding and visuals, aimed at retailers, products and services generally in the fashion, art, and entertainment areas. He is motivated by textural inspiration and total overall quality.
AESTHETIC
Brent prides himself on his ability to uphold a consistent, out of the box approach and inspiration for design per project, and maintain a high level of standards regarding professionalism, particularly when it is in relation to visual aspects, such as developing each client a solution including logo, color, and type based branding standards. He is straightforward, concise but constructive, and honest about dislikes too. Ultimately Brent would sum it up by saying that his "talents boil down to simply What looks good, and what looks bad."
Brent especially would like peer designers to notice his aesthetic. "Great branding is only going to hurt a brand if the client is at the end left wide open without standards like color, typography, etc. " |
